Descent

Descent, directed by Talia Lugacy, is a slow-moving story of the date rape of Baltimoran African American Maya (played by Rosario Dawson) and her revenge. Maya is a student at Claremont University (the filming is at Farleigh Dickinson University) who is flattered into bed by fellow student Jared (played by Chad Faust), whereupon he imposes himself against her will, using handcuffs. During the summer, she recovers by going to an African club, where she indulges in cocaine while meeting some interesting new people, particularly muscular Adrian (played by Marcus Patrick), whose demeanor is that of an ex con. In the fall, she is a teaching assistant. Jared is a student in the class whom she discovers cheating during an exam. He tries to get off by offering more sex, and she accepts, though she secretly plans to use Adrian to rape Jared. In a film that drags from scene the scene, the final few minutes are incredibly hot, as she asks Jared to strip, blindfolds him, teases him, handcuffs him, verbally shares her emotions, and then lets Adrian take control in a scene that is borderline pornographic. While Adrian insists that he is not gay, he proves that Jared enjoys having Adrian force himself on him, while tears fall from Maya’s eyes when she realizes that the punishment has gone far beyond what she experienced.
